Greater Good MagazineJeremy Adam Smith is senior editor of Greater Good magazine, a new voice of compassion, hope, and inspiration. Four times a year, it highlights ground-breaking scientific research into the roots of altruistic human relationships, and fuses this research with inspiring stories of compassion in action. In the process, Greater Good provides a bridge between social scientists and parents, educators, community leaders, and policy makers. In 2004, Greater Good was named one of the best new publications in the country by Utne magazine. It was a 2007 finalist for Utne magazine's Independent Press Awards, in the category of "Social and Cultural Coverage." This year, Greater Good is a finalist for the prestigious Maggie Award, given out by the Western Publications Association, for "Best Quarterly." It has been featured in the San Francisco Chronicle, Common Ground, Washington Post, "Nightline," KPFA, KQED, and the Chronicle of Higher Education, among other media outlets. Its editorial board includes moral and intellectual leaders such as Jonathan Kozol, Frans de Waal, Alfie Kohn, and Paul Ekman. Past issues have featured the work of Stephanie Coontz, Michael Pollan, Arlie Hochschild, Robert Reich, Robert Putnam, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and Philip Zimbardo. Greater Good is published quarterly by The Greater Good Science Center at the University of California, Berkeley.
